Owners: Kimberley and Nancy Asher Owners' Biographies: Kimberly Asher Kimberley has spent most of her life in the horse business. At four years old, Kimberley had her first riding lesson under the supervision of her grandmother. From then on, she followed the footsteps of generations of riders who had ridden for enjoyment and in competition. At thirteen, she kept her horse at Sag Pond Farm in Bridgehampton, Long Island New York. As a junior rider, she worked there as a trainer and as an assistant barn manager under the direction of Patrick Rice. She also volunteered in the local therapeutic riding program. While attending Randolph Macon Women's College in Virginia she trained with J.T. Tallon while competing inter-collegiately on the IHSA Team. Kimberley has competed on the A circuit in Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation. During her final semester at Morrisville State College, she was hired as an adjunct professor. She also rode on the intercollegiate team prior to graduating in 2002 with a B.T. in Equine studies. Since Canterbury opened for business in August 2002, she has developed a strong lesson program for riders of all ages and levels. She has also collected and trained an outstanding group of lesson horses and ponies for client use. Now she will continue to use these talents to train horses for sale. Nancy Asher When Kimberley came home from college and announced that she wanted to have her own horse farm, her parents agreed to support her dream with any talents they possessed. Nancy and Kimberley designed the barn, supervised the construction, and purchased the first lesson horses. While Kimberley focuses on the clients and the lesson program as well as horse care and training, Nancy hires the staff, handles the supplies, and establishes the back of the house routines. # of Employees: 7+ Industry: Equestrian Products/Services Brief: We provide horseback riding lessons, horses for sale, and horse boarding. Business Background: Canterbury Stables LLC purchased the dairy farm from the Burke family in 2000. The modern radiant heated barn was designed and constructed for an August 2002 opening with 40 stalls and a 100x200 indoor arena. The Asher family was graciously welcomed and supported by the Cazenovia and Greater Syracuse community. In September 2006, we officially opened our sale program in response to local demand. Fifteen additional heated stalls are available. Our central location between the NY State Thruway and Route 20 is only 45 minutes from Syracuse's Hancock Airport, which makes it convenient for perspective clients. Two major equine programs at Morrisville State College and Cazenovia College are well established within ten miles of the barn.
